This award-winning telescope is ideal for serious newcomers to astronomy, as it combines both high quality optics with an affordable price. This telescope was Group Test Winner (BBC Sky at Night) and offers one of the largest mirrors in its price range, which is a great asset because it means it can gather more light. Magnifications (with optics supplied): x36, x72, x90, x180. Highest Practical Power (Potential): x260. Supplied with a high-quality motorised equatorial mount, enabling you to track automatically objects in the night sky. "Our first test on the Sky-Watcher Explorer-130 was to check the collimation of the mirrors, which we found were well aligned. This scope has one of the largest mirrors in its price range, which is a great asset because it means it can gather more light ... Optically, the quality of the field of view while studying the star Altair was very good using the supplied 25mm eyepiece. The star remained sharp across 80 per cent of the view, with only slight distortion close to the field edges ... Taking everything into account, this telescope made observing the night sky enjoyable and relatively hassle free ... great views coupled with ease of use." - Reflecting Telescope, with 130mm diameter mirror
- Perfect for discovering the Night Sky (and more earthly subjects!)
- Motorised Telescope Movement
- Complete Kit - Everything included
This is the same telescope as our basic Explorer 130 model, except it is fitted with a variable speed motor drive. Why is this useful? Owing to the rotation of the Earth, objects in the night sky viewed by telescopes move out of view. This effect is particularly noticeable at high magnifications. To keep an object in view, you therefore need to regularly nudge the telescope round in order to "follow" the object. The motor drive supplied with this telescope automates this movement, keeping the object automatically in view for as long as possible. What we particularly like about the Explorer 130 telescope is that it achieves a very good trade-off between quality and price - the mirror is very large for a telescope in this price range, which results in highly-detailed images and wide ranges of view. The Explorer 130 enables amateur astronomists to discover a wealth of hidden secrets in the night sky, without costing the earth! And, we have to admit, the remarkable quality of the images makes this telescope stand out from other telescopes in this price range. - Magnifications (with optics supplied): x36, x72, x90, x180

Sky Watcher is an American company and a leading manufacturer of high-quality telescopes and other optical products. We are able to supply not just the telescopes in the UK, but all Sky Watcher accesories and spare parts. SKY-WATCHER DELUXE MIRROR COATINGS: Most reflectors today usually have a coat of aluminium as the mirror surface and then an overcoat of silicon monoxide or silicon dioxide to protect it. Silicon dioxide produces a much more durable coat than silicon monoxide but requires specialized equipment to apply it and is therefore more expensive. Protection is needed, because in most reflectors, the mirror is open to the elements and deterioration of the reflective layer reduces the resolution of the telescope. ALL Sky-Watcher reflectors are Multi-Coated with Silicon Dioxide as standard for Optimum Durability and Long Term Performance. I have used a great number of telescopes; some are good, some mediocre and some bad. To me the Sky-Watcher range of instruments are very good indeed, and suited to amateurs of all kinds and they are not priced out of the market! Excellent value. Use them and enjoy them.
